The Building Trades with Jeffery Lohn

About the time I found myself unemployed, I began helping an entrepreneur in my neighborhood at the top of Bushwick.  Jeffery taught me some basics of carpentry as well as electrical and plumbing while we worked on his cafe - Flushing Farms.  Sadly, other things came up in Jeffery's life and I'm again without apprenticeship in his own unique style.  We did get a couple things done though, including the floor for a back room and this bathroom sink counter.  It was not Jeffery's favorite thing he'd built, but I was very excited to connect some plumbing!

Shoe Rack

My Guitar

After 8 years of play, the bridge saddle had started to pull off the body of my guitar.  I pried it off, got some clamps and some scraps to apply even pressure and put it back together.  It plays as nicely as it played before, but of course the saddle was coming off before.

My Desk

In order to get my hand-me-down Macintosh up and running, I had to build a desk.  I didn't have much money, so I used the scrap wood that I'd been collecting.  This was my solution.

Shelves and Bookcases

The first thing I got going on when I came back to my handsaw and drill were bookcases.

Measurements

These are of the floor plan I drew out when I first started thinking through how much space I had to put a bookshelf and desk into.  They're not pretty, but the measurements were accurate and let me fit my new bookshelf and desk nicely into my space.  I've also included a floor plan for the back room of the cafe I helped build at Flushing Farm.
